Kids Climbing Frames

Kids Climbing Frames: Kids and climbing frames go together so well it is easy to understand why so many parents build or buy a climbing structure for their back yards. It is something that will provide your kids with hours of fun and exercise. Kids climbing frames allow them to burn off their excessive energy, while building strength and self confidence in the process.

A climbing frame allows children to play games and launch themselves into a make believe world of fisherman, pirates, fairies and queens. What a great way for them to stretch and nurture their imaginations. Typically most climbing frames are built out of wood. But wood can run into a few problems and it is best to be aware of them. Wood tends to split as it ages, so you want to perform maintenance checks and repair any flakes or splinters as soon as you see them. While this is perfectly natural and is not a cause for concern it is more of a preventable issue.

Nobody wants their child to suffer from unwanted slithers in their hands of feet. Checking at the base of your climbing frame is another area to watch out for, depending on your climate the frame could actually move or the soil erodes around the base making it potentially unstable. So a quick check each spring would be required. Adding new soil around the base as needed. If you find that you have problems here, adding gravel can provide enough weight to keep the base posts stable.

If you find the wood is very dry and cracking you can treat it with a protective coating, though this could make any surface prone to becoming slippery after a rainfall. It would be best to ask at your local hardware store for their recommendations on a product that is suitable and safe to use. You will also want to check for any screw or nail heads that might pop up and cause an injury. With just some basic maintenance your wooden kids climbing frames will last for many years and provide your children with countless hours of enjoyment.

Place your climbing frame in a shady spot and away from any major flowers or shrubs that could get jumped on by overzealous children. Nothing will be a fonder memory than that of watching your children have fun while playing together and learning how to share with each other. Don't forget to take those photos!
